Two miles from Alsea, Hayden Bridge is one of the oldest in the state of Oregon. It was rebuilt in 1945 either partially or totally.
Its portals which were at one time rounded have now been enlarged to a more to enable larger loads.
A illuminating window strip below the roofline lightss the interior of the bridge.
Vertical board and batten siding flares out at the base.
In 1850 Alsea was a river community, then known as Alseya Settlement.
The name was derived from the name of an Indian tribe living at the mouth of the river.
DIRECTIONS:
Take Highway 34 southwest from Corvallis for 24 miles to Alsea.
Travel west for 2 miles to Hayden Road.
Turn left on Hayden Road and continue for a few hundred yards to the bridge.
