Deschutes National Forest
The Ochoco and Deschutes National Forests with the Crooked River National Grassland encompass just over 3 million acres of Central Oregon. They extend about 100 miles along the east side of the Cascade Mountains crest and eastward into the Ochoco Mountains. They are rich in human and natural history and radiate variety offering a multitude of diverse scenic and recreation opportunities. Alpine forests and lush meadows, sparkling lakes and scenic rivers, dense evergreen forests, and lava caves (Photo Gallery) are contained within the spectacular snow capped volcanic peaks of the Cascade Mountain Range to the west and high desert to the east.

Nestled along the Cascade Mountains, the Deschutes National Forest is one of the most popular recreation forests in the Pacific Northwest.

The Ochoco National Forest stretches east with magnificent rock formations. Hiking, fishing, camping, hunting, horseback riding and rock hounding are just a few of the popular activities on the forest.

There are more than 125 developed campgrounds on the Deschutes and Ochoco National Forests, ranging from small primitive campgrounds with a few campsites to large well developed campgrounds with more than a 100 campsites.
